Fort Carson Training Our Troops for Battle

Our company has a long history of doing all it can to support the men and women of our armed forces. It is both a personal and institutional philosophy begun by our founders, Roy and Estelle Kelley, prior to World War II. I have written before about how my parents were entertaining a Navy captain and his wife for Sunday breakfast at our home on December 7, 1941, the morning of the Pearl Harbor attack. Throughout World War II, our home was a gathering place for soldiers, sailors, and Marines headed for battle on distant Pacific islands. Nearly 70 years later, the tradition of providing support and hospitality for our service personnel continues at Outrigger and OHANA hotels in a number of important ways, including our CEO David Carey’s chairmanship of the Military Affairs Council of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and membership in the national U.S. Air Force Civic Leaders Group. The Bula Spirit Community Projects

The Outrigger on the Lagoon - Fiji (FOR) held a Blood Drive on Thursday, March 19, in the Bebe Spa Sanctuary. The FOR vuvale (family), from management to staff, from off-duty to on-duty, turned out to give the “Gift of Life.” At the end of the day, the Lautoka Hospital Blood Bank Staff managed to collect 13 pints of blood, which will save many lives. U.S. Air Force Academy: Fifty Years of Developing Our Nation’s Leaders

This week, I had a wonderful opportunity to travel with a group of businessmen and -women to visit the United States Air Force Academy, located on some 128,500 acres about midway between Denver and Colorado Springs. I came away totally impressed by the institution, its faculty and leaders, and its cadets.

Kani Ka Pila Grille Opens

On Tuesday, March 18, the Outrigger Reef on the Beach officially opened the newest hot spot for fun, food, and celebration — Kani Ka Pila Grille. Located poolside at the newly-renovated Outrigger Reef on the Beach, this casual restaurant serves lunch, dinner, and tropical drinks daily. As is customary, a traditional Hawaiian blessing was held to acknowledge the Kani Ka Pila Grille and to welcome its staff to the Outrigger ‘ohana.
