Clean-Up Campaign
The Outrigger on the Lagoon – Fiji (FOR) vuvale (family) recently participated in a clean-up campaign organized by the Sigatoka Town Council and Coral Coast Carnival Committee. The goals of the campaign are to create a cleaner Sigatoka and to inspire grass roots support to rid Fiji of what has become a national problem—litter! The organizers hope this event will lead community members to gain a long-term sense of ownership and pride in their community.

Outrigger Recognized as a Start! Fit Friendly Company
By Lauren Chow Last week, Outrigger Enterprises Group was one of two Hawaii companies recognized by the American Heart Association as a Start! Fit Friendly Company. This program acknowledges companies who go above and beyond when it comes to employees’ health by promoting and encouraging a healthy working environment. Studies show that worksite wellness programs contribute to the prevention of major risk factors for cardiovascular disease, which include smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Waikiki Beach Walk’s Entertainment Line-up for October

The Outrigger Reef on the Beach and Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach are Golden!
By Lois Shore The Outrigger Reef on the Beach and the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach were each recently honored by top tour operator Apple Vacations with the prestigious Golden Apple Award. Cindy Cunningham, Outrigger’s Business Development Director for the Midwest, accepted the awards on behalf of the hotels at a luncheon ceremony held on September 15, 2009, at the Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago.

Approximately 450 employees in Waikiki attended the 2009 Annual Health Fair and received free health services, including flu shots, glucose/cholesterol screenings, massage therapy, grip strength analysis, and blood pressure screenings. Outrigger Hospitality Specialist Travel Agent Wins Outrigger Reef’s Triple Play Promotion

This past June and July, the Outrigger Reef on the Beach worked with the Travel Agent Marketing and the North America Field Sales departments to run a Triple Play Promotion for Outrigger Hospitality Specialists. During the promotion, Outrigger Hospitality Specialists earned triple the normal Specialist Reward Points for each qualified, reported booking. In addition, each reported booking that actualized was included in a drawing for a free five-night stay in a one-bedroom suite. The reported number of bookings and room nights by Specialists during this promotion showed an increase of 173 percent from the same time period in 2008!

A big mahalo to everyone who came to the Embassy Suites® – Waikiki Beach Walk® Blood Drive on Monday, September 28. With your help, we collected 24 pints of blood! These pints of blood will be separated into its three main components: red blood cells, plasma, and platelets and used to treat life threatening medical problems. Team Keauhou Competes at the Inaugural Keauhou Lavaman Triathlon!

The inaugural Keauhou Lavaman Triathlon took place on Sunday, September 13, 2009. The Keauhou Beach Resort was the official host hotel and celebration venue for this wonderful sporting event. The course included a 1.5k swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run, with a number of vantage points, where spectators cheered on the 226 athletes, some from as far away as Europe, who participated in the event.
