By Nancy Daniels
It was a busy week for the Outrigger Reef on the Beach when two important partner events were held on consecutive nights last week.
Representatives from Alaska Airlines were in Hawai‘i over a four-day period to meet with state, industry, and tourism officials to talk about the airlines expanding service to Hawai‘i. Alaska Air held an industry reception at the Outrigger Reef’s Voyager Deck on August 17 with more than 100 in attendance. It was a memorable evening, with Alaska Airline’s President Brad Tilden sharing his team’s excitement at being an important and growing part of the Hawaii community.

Hundreds Enjoy Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival
By Nancy Daniels
Hundreds turned out at Queen Kapi‘olani Park and Bandstand on Saturday, August 15, for the 28th annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival “O‘ahu Style.” Outrigger Hotels & Resorts was a proud sponsor of the event, which brought island residents as well as visitors to the park for a day filled with rhythms of the Hawaiian slack key guitar. The audience was thrilled to hear some of Hawaii’s greatest “kī hī‘alu” players perform, as well as new artists who are taking the style of playing in new directions. One of the relative newcomers to perform was Patrick Landeza, cousin of Outrigger Sales Manager Jennifer Cabasag, who was there with a large contingency of ‘ohana to enjoy the day and lend their support to Patrick, as he and 15 of his students, who all traveled from California, performed. During the program, event coordinator Milton Lau extended his appreciation to Outrigger Hotels & Resorts for our continued support of the festival. A big mahalo to OHANA Waikiki East, Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, and Outrigger Reef on the Beach for their ongoing support of the event, as well as Kani Ka Pila Grille Ambassador of Aloha Luana Maitland, who assisted at the festival, and Events Manager Ethan Chang for his assistance with the slack key guitar workshops held at the Outrigger Waikiki.
