By Lauren Chow Last week, Outrigger Enterprises Group was one of two Hawaii companies recognized by the American Heart Association as a Start! Fit Friendly Company. This program acknowledges companies who go above and beyond when it comes to employees’ health by promoting and encouraging a healthy working environment. Studies show that worksite wellness programs contribute to the prevention of major risk factors for cardiovascular disease, which include smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
Every year, Outrigger provides valuable health and wellness opportunities to our employees such as our popular health fairs, free cancer screenings (mammograms and prostate screening), and free flu shots, just to name a few. This past May, Outrigger added a new event to our collection of health and wellness programs with the kick-off of our employee walking program. The Heart and Sole Walking Program was created to encourage everyone to increase their daily physical activity. This program was a great success, and we encourage everyone to keep up the hard work and get out there and walk!
According to Dr. Chuck Kelley, “Outrigger is committed to promoting health and wellness throughout our organization. In line with our Mission statement where we strive to provide ‘our employees an opportunity to be their best,’ Outrigger has a number of ongoing worksite wellness initiatives and programs. Here at Outrigger, we believe that happy and healthy employees are a company’s most valuable asset.”
