Continental Airlines: A New Beginning – Old Memories

This past week, as the world focused on protests in the streets of many major cities, the extremely serious sovereign debt crisis in the euro-based economies and the bankruptcy of the parent corporation of American Airlines, AMR Corp., few heard the quiet whimper from Continental Airlines on Wednesday, November 30, when that proud carrier, now merged with United Airlines, flew its last flight under the call sign “Continental.” Captain R. J. “Jim” Starley, Continental’s Managing Director, Flight Operations, noted the occasion in a Pilot Bulletin printed on United letterhead saying, “While we will experience mixed emotions with the retirement of our proud call sign, our brand and our heritage will live on.” Read the rest of this entry

“Touched by an Angel” at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach

In celebrating the Outrigger Way Paddle 4 process – “Why We Do What We Do,” the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, Outrigger Regency on Beachwalk, Outrigger Luana Waikiki and Outrigger Waikiki Shore guests and employees came together for a “Touched by an Angel” event on Wednesday, November 30, to make angel ornaments and gift the angels to the Liliha Senior Care Facility. One hundred angel ornaments were made with love.
Mahalo to Bill Comstock, Walter Tolentino, Pam Cabrera, their employees and guests for giving and sharing of their time and creativity. Joy and happiness were felt by both receiver and giver. Happy Holidays to all!

Giving Thanks

As we count our blessings this Thanksgiving weekend, we here at Outrigger have much to be thankful for. In particular, we can be grateful for the outstanding rebound that Hawai‘i’s hospitality industry has enjoyed this year, and the revving up of our state’s “economic engine” that will pass through and stimulate our entire economy. I think it’s also fair to say that we are blessed, as well, to work in a values-oriented company that has done everything possible to preserve jobs and maintain benefits through the last several difficult years. Aurora Chamber Defense Council Breakfast Meeting

Last week The Hilton Garden Inn Denver Airport hosted our annual Chamber Defense Council Breakfast Meeting. Waimanalo Outreach Choir at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach

Keiki from the Waimanalo Outreach Choir directed by Pam DeBoard entertained our guests with songs of the island and songs for the holidays on Tuesday, November 15. Pam is the Executive Director of HEARTS, Hawaii Education of the ARTS. HEARTS’ mission is to enhance the character and lives of young people through a challenging arts program and to enrich the community by providing high quality arts events. HEARTS believes that all children and youth deserve training in the arts regardless of financial status.
“We were all very pleased by their performance and surprised by the energetic harmony from only 14 keiki,” said General Manager Bill Comstock. “This was a perfect way to begin our Holiday Season.” Mahalo to the staff for coming out to watch the performance. Hau‘oli Lā Ho‘omaikai!
