Chamorro Month celebrated

BY JACQUELINE CARTER — Biba Mes Chamoru! Discover the native roots and indigenous culture of our island, as we celebrate Chamorro Month, Mes Chamorro.

Outrigger Guam Beach Resort guests are invited to “Explore the Island of Guahan,” showcased in our lobby for the entire month of March. Guests can learn about Guam’s history and escape into the rich traditional culture and heritage of the Pacific. Under multiple forms of colonialism, the traditions and customs of Chamorro culture still lives on proudly for over 4,000 years.

From artifacts to artwork, we celebrate the people and the history of the island. The lobby will showcase two exhibits displaying art pieces from local artists of The Guam Gallery of Art and Chamorro Artists Association and museum exhibition pieces from the cultural group Sagan Kotturan Chamoru of the Chamoru Cultural Center.

On March 3, Outrigger Guam Beach Resort hosted an Opening Ceremony for Chamorro Month. The lobby was filled with music, dancing and food as artists, exhibitors and guests enjoyed the festivities.

As Chamorro Month continues, the spirit, history and culture of the island will be celebrated.
