By Nancy Daniels — It’s April so that can mean only one thing in Hawaii — it’s SPAM® Jam time! Outrigger has been a sponsor of this fun, family-friendly event from the beginning.
Tell your family and friends — the 7th Annual Waikiki SPAM Jam® is set for Saturday April 25, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Waikiki. Admission is free; entertainment is free.
Kalakaua Avenue will be closed to car traffic for the block party, and this year, two entertainment stages will be
set up on the street. Between the stages, a dozen restaurants will be serving SPAM® in a variety of tasty preparations.
Last year, attendees were able to “grind” on dishes like SPAM® Katsu, SPAM® Won Ton, SPAM® Pan Lau Lau, SPAM® Ravioli, SPAM® Tacos, and SPAM® Poke. Revelers this year can look forward to dishes that are just as ono (good), with the following restaurants already signed up: Jimmy Buffet’s at the Beachcomber, Cheeseburger Beachwalk, Duke’s Waikiki, Frank Pai’s Deli, Coconut Willy’s, Chibo Okonomiyaki, Doraku Sushi, K’s Restaurant, Gordon Biersch, Murphy’s Bar & Grill, PF Chang’s, and Shack Waikiki.
Bring a can of SPAM® to SPAM® Jam and drop it off at one of the two Hawaii Food Bank booths that will be set up. Organizers hope to collect a can of SPAM® from each attendee –which could easily be 20,000 cans of SPAM®!
Did you know that more SPAM® is consumed per person in Hawaii than is consumed in any other state in the United States? Almost seven million cans of SPAM® are eaten every year in Hawaii. To find out more about SPAM® and the 7th annual Waikiki SPAM® Jam, log on at www.spamjamhawaii.com.
