BY SHERYL TSUGAWA — Saturday, Jan. 28, members of the Embassy Suites by Hilton™-Waikiki Beach Walk® (ESH) Make A Difference committee joined with the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association in a Kapiolani Park beautification project.
For two hours, volunteers painted over 40 park benches/tables, 2 signs and 2 charcoal pits, and picked up trash in the surrounding area. The ESH “MAD warriors” team took responsibility for the Kapiolani Park signs.
Although the main purpose was to give back to our community, what we got back from the experience was more than expected. It was a great time and quite meaningful as joggers and families thanked us personally for “making a difference” in the community.
Make A Difference Committee is an Embassy Suites by Hilton™ initiative. It is a volunteer group of team members and managers who meet monthly and find ways to improve guest service, boost team morale and give back to the community. The committee’s purpose is fourfold: Spearhead the hotel’s community-service efforts, boost communication between all departments, generate excitement for the brand’s culture initiatives and plan and carry out fun team-building activities.
