Outrigger Spreads Easter Joy to Military Families
BY NANCY DANIELS — This past Easter was made a little brighter for some deserving military families thanks to Outrigger Easter Bunnies working together with community groups. Military Liaison Mildred Courtney was joined by Jerry Dolak, Conchita Malaqui, Chuck Shishido and Jose Solorio who opted to drive rather than hop on down to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for a very special presentation of Easter baskets created by Outrigger employees, with assistance by the Girls Scouts and the USO.

Jerry Dolak, Conchita Malaqui, Chuck Shishido, Mildred Courtney and Jose Solorio ready to hop on over to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to spread some Easter cheer
Capt. Jeffrey James, Commander of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, together with his Command Master Chiefs, accepted the colorful baskets that were filled with cuddly toys and sweet treats. Capt. James and his team had nothing but praise and thanks for the generosity and care put into each of the Easter baskets.
This year’s Project Easter Basket blossomed from just one basket created by the interns in Mrs. Courtney’s office. The effort is part of Outrigger’s longstanding support of military families. Word of the effort quickly spread among our O‘ahu properties and Corporate offices, and when the cellophane was wrapped around the last basket, what began as one had blossomed into 71 very distinct baskets.
As Mrs. Courtney told me, “It was a team effort, and I am so proud of the many Outrigger ‘ohana members who joined together to make this Easter extra special for so many of our deserving military families.”
Outrigger Reef on the Beach
BY LUANA MAITLAND — Guests of the Outrigger Reef on the Beach gathered on Friday, April 6, to vote for their favorite Easter egg made by our employees. The criteria this year were to incorporate the Ke ‘Ano Wa‘a Values in their egg entries. The Grand Prize Winner was Serenity Spa who submitted a display with beautifully painted eggs designed with different country flags on them. Winner for Most Creative was Wo Shun from Housekeeping; Most Colorful, Solomon Kaimimoku from Expedia; and Most Cultural, Marlene Wong from the Front Office. Mahalo to all who shared their decorating talents with us this year.
On Easter day, the Easter Bunny dropped off a basket with Easter eggs filled with candy and surprises for all the children, making this a special day for our keiki.
Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation Resort
BY MARIANNE THESKEN — The Easter tradition continued at the Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation with the Easter Bunny making a sneak appearance at a recent employee luncheon. Luckily, he returned a few days later to hide the Easter eggs all around our beautiful resort early on Easter morning. The children of guests and employees were delighted to hug our cute Easter Bunny before they went on a giant Easter Egg Hunt. For early riser guests, a nondenominational sunrise service was offered.

Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach
BY ETHAN CHANG — The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach celebrated the Easter weekend with a fun Easter Display contest and children’s activities for families of employees, merchants and guests. The culmination of activities ended with a good old-fashioned Easter egg hunt for all the keiki, as we celebrated with family on Easter Sunday.
The creativity of our employees was certainly showcased in this year’s Employee Easter Display contest. The rules? Be creative, make a display and have fun! Mahalo and congratulations to all of our fabulous entries, and a special mahalo to our merchants who participated and provided terrific prizes.
