BY BARBARA CAMPBELL — Waikiki Community Center (WCC) honored Outrigger Enterprises Group (OEG) as Corporate Volunteer of the Year 2016 with the Makana Ola Loa award at their volunteer appreciation luncheon Feb. 13. The award honors a company who has provided extraordinary volunteer support to the community and the Center.
WCC president Caroline Hayashi said, “This was such a well-deserved award. We so much appreciate Outrigger Enterprises Group, a kamaaina-founded company who has demonstrated again and again how much they truly care about our community.
“Outrigger brought almost 200 employees to WCC in April last year for a day of service as part of their global conference. The group left the Center looking like a new facility, going through almost every room—working on everything from cleaning and painting to creating a new teacher’s lounge for the preschool, complete with donated furniture, to holding a marketing brainstorm session for the Center. All the work accomplished that day is valued at over $40,000.”
Ms. Hayashi also noted that in addition to the day of service, Outrigger has allowed their staff to lend their considerable professional skills by serving on the Center’s board of directors and various committees.
I have had the privilege of serving as chair of the board for the last three years and continue to be active as a board member at large. Outrigger’s properties have also provided in-kind donations for the auditorium, offices, thrift shop and emergency food bank. The company has also been generous, not only with their time and labor, but as a premium sponsor at WCC’s annual Waikiki Lights event.
Outrigger’s ongoing support is helping to fulfill the increasing demand for services and to keep Waikiki a healthy and vibrant community for our residents and visitors alike.
