BY TONY PEDRONI — Over 6,000 runners representing 51 nations participated in the 11th annual Laguna Phuket Marathon with events spread over two days, June 4 and 5.
On Saturday evening, Khun Rattakarn Lamanee (Golf), who works in the recreation department at Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort (TLR), won the 10.5km category race, beating a field of over 1,400 runners in a very impressive time of 37 minutes and 56 seconds. Incredibly, Khun Golf was at the start line the following morning at 4:30 a.m. where he completed his first ever marathon, finishing 17th overall in a time of 3 hours and 28 minutes.
Additionally over 60 runners and aid station volunteers from our two Phuket properties and the Asia-Pacific corporate office took part in a variety of events ranging from 5km to a full marathon event.
Like every year, athletes participating in Laguna Phuket’s 2016 Marathon and Triathlon raise funds through donations and sponsorships for the resort’s long-established “Laguna Phuket Foundation” to operate its various charitable programs.
Over the years significant funds have been raised to fund community initiatives, including a local school renovation, survival swim and community mobile learning center.
