Outrigger Twin Towns Resort was recently rock ‘n’ roll central when more than 80,000 enthusiasts flooded into the picturesque border towns of Kirra, Coolangatta, and Tweed Heads to celebrate the annual two-week Wintersun Festival.
The festival, which celebrates the music, dance, and classic cars of the 50s and 60s, drew record crowds, and according to organisers, it was the biggest festival in the event’s 31-year history.
In addition to Rockabilly concerts, dancing displays, and street jiving, more than 1,300 classic and custom cars and some very fancy hot rods made the annual pilgrimage to the area, which was brimming in a sea of polka dot skirts, poodle motifs, ponytails, and impressive slick-backed hair-styles!
To get into the swing of things, the staff at Outrigger Twin Towns Resort dressed up, as did many of our guests. The songs of Elvis, Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry played in the lobby from a classic juke box we hired to celebrate Australia’s largest rock ‘n’ roll and retro festival that had guests literally jiving in the hallways.
