BY DONNA PARKIN — American football came to Sydney with the arrival of the University of Hawaii (UH) Rainbow Warriors and the University of California Golden Bears for the opening game of the 2016 NCAA College Football Championships.

Andrew Gee, regional director of sales and marketing Australia and New Zealand, attended two key events as Outrigger’s official ambassador.

The Hawaii Tourism Office, represented by CEO George Szigeti and David Matlin of UH, hosted an evening of Hawaii regional cuisine with visiting Chef Russell Siu on Aug. 25.

On Aug. 27, Sydney’s ANZ Stadium was the venue for the match where guests enjoyed a tailgate party hosted by Hawaii Tourism, Visit California and Brand USA.

A crowd of more than 60,000 watched the Golden Bears defeat the Rainbow Warriors 51-31, but hearts were won for the Warriors who brought a little taste of Aloha to Oz.
