Celebrating host years of service milestones 4th quarter 2014

BY KATHY OYADOMARI — Outrigger celebrates hosts reaching milestone years of service!

35 YEARS

LOIDA MANUEL – Loida started working for Outrigger as a housekeeper at the Outrigger Waikiki Surf Hotel and currently works at the OHANA Waikiki West Hotel. She enjoys meeting guests from all over the world and takes pride in keeping the West’s guest rooms clean. Loida commented that the company growing successfully in Asia, Australia and the Pacific is one of the things that has been significant in her years of service at Outrigger. In her free time, Loida enjoys spending time with her mom and taking care of her garden. She plans to visit her family on the mainland soon and hopes to travel to Philippines to visit her relatives. She is proud of her children, who are caring, loving and call her long distance every day to make sure she is doing well. Loida’s philosophy on life is to “enjoy life and be happy.”

 

30 YEARS

ALFREDO ENCOMIENDA – Alfredo started as a laundry attendant at the Outrigger Prince Kuhio and later transferred to the housekeeping department at the Waikiki Village. Currently Alfredo works at Embassy Suites® – Waikiki Beach Walk® providing general maintenance for the property.  His responsibilities include assisting guests with maintenance issues, maintaining the swimming pool and working on special projects. Alfredo is amazed at the company’s expansion to new places. When Alfredo is not working, he enjoys taking morning walks, cleaning his yard, cooking, watching Filipino programs and going to the movies with his wife. He hopes to travel to different countries and says he enjoys visiting Las Vegas with his wife. His philosophy on life is “work hard and enjoy life.” Alfredo is so proud and grateful to work for Outrigger for 30 years.

 

AMY LEE – Amy started as a housekeeper at the Waikiki Village and currently works at the OHANA Waikiki Malia. She takes pride in providing good service and a pleasant stay for her guests. Amy looks forward to seeing her return guests and treats them like family. She also enjoys spending time with her coworkers; she calls them her second family. Her dream is see that her two daughters finish college and to travel to Korea and other countries. On her days off, Amy enjoys going to church, spending time with family and friends, eating at her favorite restaurant, watching Korean shows and window-shopping. Her philosophy on life is “work hard and do what you enjoy to be happy.” Amy shares that she feels fortunate to work for Outrigger.

 

AUSTIN LEE – When Austin joined Outrigger, he worked in housekeeping. Currently, he works in the maintenance department at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort and his duties include house calls, projects, building maintenance and anything related to air conditioning. Austin enjoys learning new things at work and the challenges that he encounters. He comments that Outrigger has grown so much, just like a family. Austin looks forward to spending time with family and golfing more with his wife when he retires. His philosophy on life is “If you find a job that you enjoy, you will never work a day in your life,” which is how Austin feels working for Outrigger. Austin shared that he is very proud of his son.

 

DANETTE LIONETTI – Danette joined Outrigger as a mail courier at the Prince Kuhio Hotel. She professed that she was a Menudo fan (the popular Latin band led by Ricky Martin who often stayed at the Prince Kuhio on their visits to the island) and was determined to get a job at the property! After two weeks as a mail courier, she was promoted to security dispatch supervisor and then security office manager. In 2005, Danette transferred to Embassy Suites® – Waikiki Beach Walk® as administrative assistant to the general manager and five years later, joined Company Services as administrative assistant to Barry Wallace, EVP of Hospitality Services. Danette loves working for Outrigger with Kelley family-instilled values. She recently married Mark Lionetti, has a daughter, Amber (32), and loves spending time with her shih tzu Roxy. Her philosophy on life is “live to be happy, not stress, not let things bother you and surround yourself with positive people.”

ESMERALDA ANCHETA – Esmeralda has worked as a housekeeper at the OHANA Waikiki West Hotel for her 30 years here. Her favorite part of the job is meeting guests from all over the world and welcoming them with Aloha. Since her job is so physically demanding, Esmeralda relaxes by watching TV and reading the newspaper. She hopes to retire from Outrigger and travel around the world. Visiting her relatives in the Philippines is also on her ‘wish list.’  Esmeralda says she is most proud of the many years she has worked for Outrigger and shares that she is a happy and cheerful person, so it’s not surprising that her philosophy on life is to “enjoy life and be happy!”

 

FENG FEI POON – Feng Fei has worked as a housekeeper at the OHANA Waikiki East Hotel since she joined the company.  Meeting guests from all over the world, she says, is the best part of her job! The growth of the company outside of Hawai‘i is a big and exciting change that Feng Fei says is memorable in all her years at Outrigger. She loves to garden and watch Chinese dramas in her spare time. Travel is in her future, with plans to visit relatives in Australia and China. Feng Fei has four sisters and takes care of her 100-year-old mom. She is very happy to be part of the Outrigger family and her philosophy on life is to “be honest, enjoy life and travel the world to see new things.”

JAE SIL LEE – Jae Sil has been a housekeeper at the OHANA Waikiki West since joining Outrigger. Like many others, she enjoys meeting guests from all over the world and finds that she enjoys that part of her job the most. On her days off, Jae Sil enjoys cooking and going to church. She loves to babysit her grandchildren and strives to do the right things to stay healthy. She hopes to retire from Outrigger and dreams to travel the world. Jae Sil is a proud mom to two sons who are happily married. She is most proud of her years of service at Outrigger and her philosophy on life is “believe in Jesus.”

 

JENNIE TRUONG – Jennie started as a laundry attendant at the Outrigger Prince Kuhio and transferred to the OHANA Waikiki West Hotel as a housekeeper. Her duties include being a runner, linen attendant, seamstress and relief clerk at both the OHANA Waikiki East (OEH) and at the OHANA Waikiki West (OWH) hotels. Jennie loves every part of her job and is amazed at the expansion of the company. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, dining out with her family and watching Chinese programs on TV. She is looking forward to paying off her mortgage and seeing her son graduate from college. Jennie is thankful to be a part of the OHANA Waikiki East and West teams, who are her second family, and is proud to have worked 30 years for Outrigger. Jennie’s philosophy is to “stay healthy and happy.”

KAY JA AN – Kay began her Outrigger career as a housekeeper at the Outrigger Reef Towers and later transferred to the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort, where she currently enjoys interacting with guests. Kay shared that since the renovation, the expectations of her job have increased and she enjoys the challenge. On her days off, she likes hiking with her friends from church. She also likes to shop, read and relax in her friend’s sauna. Kay’s travel plans are to meet up with her daughter who lives in Hong Kong and travel to Korea. Next year, plans are to travel to Europe. Kay shares that walking daily and hiking has improved her health, made her strong and she feels much better. She is thankful to Outrigger for all she has gained in her 30 years of working for the company. Her philosophy on life is “try to work with everyone and be nice to others.”

LIN  HEUNG LO – Lin Heung has worked as a housekeeper at the OHANA Waikiki East Hotel from the beginning of her Outrigger career. She enjoys meeting guests from different places and learning about their cultures. Lin Heung comments that the new computer system is a big change at work. When she isn’t working, she enjoys watching Chinese dramas on TV, going out with her friends, playing Majong and shopping. Lin Heung is excited about an upcoming trip to visit her mom and relatives in Hong Kong. She has been very happy working at the OHANA Waikiki East Hotel and shared that her philosophy on life is “enjoy life and be happy all the time.”

 

LOURDES CORPUZ – Lourdes started as a housekeeper at the Outrigger Prince Kuhio and later transferred to the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. Currently, she is a housekeeping clerk and shares that she has learned a lot in this position. Lourdes commented that the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort renovation is a big change that she will always remember. She enjoys shopping, going to the beach with her family and keeping up with friends on Facebook. Lourdes recently moved from Wa‘ianae to Kapolei and is living in her dream home. She hopes to visit the Philippines with her mom next year. Lourdes is most proud of her son who joined the Army, working 30 years at Outrigger, and being healthy. Her philosophy on life is “never give up, no matter how difficult life gets and to follow your dreams.”

MANUEL ‘MANNY’ NICHOLAS – Manny joined Outrigger as a parking attendant in 1984 and after three months transferred to the bell department at the then Outrigger Malia Hotel. He currently works at the OHANA Waikiki Malia front desk assisting guests. When asked about a significant and memorable time during his time at Outrigger, Manny commented on the tremendous growth of Outrigger locally and internationally. When time permits, Manny loves golfing with his buddies, listening to music and playing his acoustic guitar. He enjoys visiting new places and exploring the cultures of the people there. In the near future, Manny hopes to travel around Japan using the rail transit system and his dream is to travel around the world with his wife. Manny’s philosophy on life is “joy can be real, only if people look upon their lives as a service and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness.”

MEI LIN MA – Mei Lin has spent her entire career with Outrigger at the OHANA Waikiki East Hotel as a housekeeper. She takes pride in keeping the guest rooms clean and providing a pleasant stay for her guests. Mei Lin comments that since the renovation, the guest rooms are nicer and better and she takes pride in keeping them in top shape. She enjoys her days off by shopping, eating out and babysitting her grandchild. Mei Lin plans to travel to Hong Kong soon and her dream is to win a million dollars in Las Vegas! She has two sons and two grandchildren and is proud to work for Outrigger. Her philosophy on life is “always have a big smile and be happy.”

 

VIRGINIA TRINIDAD – Virginia started as a housekeeper at the Outrigger Waikiki Tower and later transferred to the OHANA Waikiki West Hotel. She is responsible for keeping the guest rooms clean and providing exceptional hospitality. She does her best to be a good host to her guests and is happy when her guests’ stay is enjoyable. On her days off, Virginia loves to cook, sing and go camping with her relatives. Virginia plans to travel around the world and dreams of owning a condo in Manila. Before moving to Hawai‘i, Virginia taught grade school in the Philippines. She is thankful and proud of her 30 years at Outrigger. Her philosophy on life is to “enjoy it!”
