The 34th Annual Slack Key Guitar Festivals at Kani Ka Pila Grille and Waikiki Beach Walk®

BY LUANA MAITLAND — The 34th Annual Slack Key Guitar Festival kicked off on Friday, August 12 with the Slack Key Jam at Kani Ka Pila Grille. This special concert, featuring 10 of Hawaii’s most renowned slack key artists, including the Kī Hō‘alu Legacy Award winner: Paul Togioka, Glenn Smith (from the group Ho‘okena) and Kawika Kahiapo, to name a few. Attendees enjoyed special menu items of luau stew and lomi salmon, as well as prize drawings for Kani Ka Pila Grille logo item. Aunty Sylvia Aiu was the lucky winner of a Taylor Guitar.

SKF CrowdOn Sunday, August 14, Waikiki Beach Walk® was proud to host the 34th Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival for the first time. Kama‘āina and visitors enjoyed music by dozens of great musicians, including: guitarist Jeff Dayton from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who toured with Glenn Campbell, Willie Nelson, the Judds and more.  Hawaii’s Slack Key Masters like Kawika Kahiapo, Bobbie Moderow, Brother Noland, Patrick Landeza and more made the day event an magical day of music.  A special mahalo to: Milton Lau, Conchita Malaqui, Blaine Kia, Michellee Phelps, Will Phelps, Kahoaka Meheula-Solomon, Sheryl Yee, Charlene Goo, Russ Sumida, Chris Lau, Harry B. Soria, Christine Hoek and Ryan Kodani.
