To honour Outrigger’s value of ‘Ohana, staff members at Outrigger Twin Towns Resort have created an “Our Family Wall.” Everyone was encouraged to add a sheet of paper that depicts their family in photos, drawings, or symbols. Of course photos of employees’ children and grandchildren are the most popular postings. There are also lots of pictures of pets, hometowns, and cultural backgrounds. The staff are enjoying sharing family stories and learning about one another. Many staff members have added their favourite quotes and pieces of advice to the wall, some of which are:
The things we care most about we should treat with trust, honesty & fairness
- A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
- Today’s efforts create tomorrow’s results
- A house is made of walls and beams, a home is built with love and dreams
The common bond amongst all contributions is the connection they have with the Outrigger values of both ‘Ohana (family) and Wahi (place). Pages can be updated and changed at any time with staff adding pictures of new additions to the family, weddings, their children’s achievements, and much more. Any addition from a new team member is eagerly awaited and it has become an important talking point.
The ‘Our Family Wall’ has fast become a very important part of the resort with the team learning more about one another and developing a stronger bond within the Outrigger ‘Ohana. The wall was the idea of Rooms Division Manager, Leah Matters. Great idea Leah, well done!
