Outrigger Waikiki’s Vintage Collectibles Exhibit

Monthly exhibits of vintage Hawaiian collectibles are featured at the Outrigger Waikiki as part of our “Kalakaua Experience” cultural program. Exhibits are held on the first Friday of every month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Upper Lobby. While some collectibles are for display only, the majority of items are available for purchase.

This month’s exhibit featured rare stamps, coins and letters from the collection of Samantha D’Ambrosio of Hawaiian Islands Stamp and Coin and Hawaiian collectibles from the collection of Ilene Wong and Wayne Maeda of I&W Productions. King Kalakaua coins and stamps and letters written by the King and Queen Liliuokalani, were on display and available for sale. Part of the collection included Hawaiian stamps used under the kingdom, Provisional Government and Republic of Hawaii. A collection of Hawaiian covers (stamped envelopes from the late 1880s) were also available for sale, as well as Hawaiian stock certificates, documents, tokens, medals, wooden calabashes and basalt poi pounders.

Hawaiian Islands Stamps and Coin has been a leader for the last 30 years in bringing Hawaii’s history and collectibles to the forefront of the collecting field. They have given many educational lectures on Hawaii’s history and collectible memorabilia, produced museum-quality exhibits and written numerous newspaper articles. In addition they have won several “Keep It Hawaii” awards from the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, three literary awards from the American Numismatic Association on the Hawaii World War II Notes and published books on Hawaiian money.

Next month, on Friday, February 2, the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach will feature Surfing Memorabilia, including swimming trunks and aloha shirts.
