Jim Austin is Outrigger’s New Director of Public Relations

Please join me and the Human Resources department in welcoming Jim Austin to the Outrigger ‘ohana. Jim has been named Director of Public Relations for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts. In this position, Jim is responsible for directing the public relations efforts on behalf of both the Outrigger and OHANA brands. He also oversees the company’s corporate Public Relations department in Honolulu, as well as the various public relation agencies and resources currently utilized by Outrigger in Hawaii and across the Pacific.

Jim has over 18 years of experience in the tourism public relations industry, most recently as Public Relations Director for the Pointe Hilton Resorts, the largest luxury resort chain based in Arizona. The company’s product line consists of three all-suite total destination resort properties, each with extensive accommodations, convention facilities, championship golf courses, unique restaurants and exclusive spa, salon and fitness amenities.

Earlier in his career, Jim managed the local, national and international public relations efforts of the Metropolitan Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau. He also spent three years as a weekly business newspaper columnist with the Arizona Business Gazette, Arizona’s leading weekly business publication, in addition to authoring several nationally- published magazine and newspaper articles on the subjects of travel and public relations techniques.

Although Jim has spent the past 20 years in Arizona, he is no stranger to Hawaii. Jim grew up in the islands and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Hawaii. He subsequently transferred to Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. For the past nine years, Jim has been a member of the Society of American Travel Writers.
