Wanis Tarhoni, Room Service
Wanis is one of our employees who quietly goes about his job, but he is very effective in what he does. As a Room Service Waiter, Wanis excels in customer service. From setting up his trays, through his delivery, to the presentation in the room, Wanis strives to provide quality service for his guests (Kina’ole). Wanis is very detail oriented and treats his job in a professional manner. In a situation where supervision has been lacking due to management cutbacks, Wanis will not take shortcuts. He wants to provide his guests with the best service possible. Wanis is also very accepting of change when the opportunity presents itself. He takes pride in his work environment (Wahi) and embraces any change that might improve it. Wanis has been instrumental in organizing his work area, and he has provided ideas that have been implemented by management. Wanis has also been cross trained to fill in for the order taker if needed. He is willing to learn new tasks so that he might better assist his department and is not hesitant to take responsibility (Kuleana). When a server is required for a special VIP function, Wanis is one of our first choices because of his professional approach to his job. Wanis is an asset to the Room Service department, and he has been effective in raising the level of service in the department.

Aida Caliva, Housekeeping
Aida joined our ‘ohana in 1986. In all those years, she was assigned to the 4400 wing of building four, where she maintained the highest standards of guest room cleaning. After the renovation in 2000, Aida took over the sixth floor of the Haleakala Hale as her station and again has maintained a very high standard of cleanliness. She goes out of her way to make sure that every room in her section is perfectly clean and refreshed for each new arrival. Aida maintains her special projects and ensures her project calendar is up to date and marked correctly. Aida is always willing to help her fellow employees in a time of need and has gained the respect and admiration of all who she comes in contact with. She has a great attitude towards work and her prides shines through as evidenced by the cleanliness of the rooms in her section. Aida is always willing to stay late or come in on her days off to help out during peak periods to make sure that every guest room is clean and ready. Aida has cultivated a large group of returning guests that request to be located in her station when they make reservations to return to the hotel. Aida is truly an asset to our ‘ohana and one of the unsung heroes of the Housekeeping department. Congratulations, Aida, we are proud and privileged to work with you each day.
