3rd Annual King Kamehameha III Birthday Celebration

On Saturday March 13, the OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort (KBR) hosted the 3rd Annual King Kamehameha III Birthday Celebration on our lu’au grounds. The free concert’s exciting entertainment included the Ka’ala Boys, IMUA, the Kawaikihou Serenaders (who currently perform three nights a week in the resort’s lounge), Na Palapalai, and Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom.

Born at Keauhou in 1813, King Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli) was the son of Kamehameha the Great. During his 30-year reign, he signed the Great Mahele which divided land among his people, declared the right of religious freedom, and instituted the Kingdom’s first written constitution. In 1843, King Kamehameha III coined Hawai’i's motto that appears on the state seal and coat of arms: “Ua mau ke ea o ka ‘aina i ka pono — the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.”

More than 700 residents and guests of the OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort attended this fun-filled event. Delicious Hawaiian food was available at the Kai Ehitu canoe club booth — many members of whom are KBR employees.

Mahalo to all the members of the KBR ‘ohana who worked so hard to make this a memorable day for all those in attendance.
