BY DAVID CAREY — It is with great enthusiasm that I share with you today some exciting plans to revitalize the Outrigger Reef on the Beach hotel. As you well know, a major competitive advantage of Outrigger is our unique ability to provide guests with a high quality, authentic experience, globally. In order to keep pace with the evolving expectations of guests, we are proposing an enhancement to Outrigger Reef on the Beach that will increase the number of first-class hotel rooms and overall guest experience, while also providing much-needed meeting and function space in Waikīkī.
The revitalization of Outrigger Reef on the Beach will include building a brand new tower along the mauka–Kalia Road edge of the property that will provide new hotel rooms and incorporate materials, features and technologies that increase efficiency and sustainability of the property. This tower will provide the first new beachfront hotel rooms to Waikīkī in 30 years, leading to a net increase of 204 rooms at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. The redesign will also add 15,000 square feet of new conference space for mid-size gatherings.
In order to further enhance the destination and guest experience, our plans also include creating approximately 34,000 square feet of new open recreation space. A spectacular resort pool, dining and lounging areas, with flowing water toward the ocean, blending the hotel with the beach and ocean beyond will replace the current beachside five-story Diamond Head tower and pool deck. The tradition of Kani Ka Pila Grille and live local music will be carried on without interruption at other locations during the revitalization project. At completion, the updated Outrigger Reef on the Beach will be a model beachfront hotel that truly embraces the iconic destination of Waikiki Beach.
The Outrigger Way is to ensure that employees are kept informed about company happenings. In our usual way, we will work together as an Outrigger ‘ohana throughout this exciting project. One of the great strengths of this company is our ability to work as a team to take Outrigger to the next level of success so that both our dedicated employees and guests benefit. We have a long way to go on this project and are currently working to attain the proper approvals to move forward. We anticipate that construction will commence in 2017 and be complete by 2019.
