BY DONNA PARKIN — A safari up the Sigatoka River to visit authentic Fijian villages was one of the highlights of a visit to Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island, Fiji by a media group from Singapore representing Sethlui.com and August Man Magazine.

Utilising the new direct twice-weekly Fiji Airlines SIN/NAN service, media guests Siva Shankar, Wei Loong, Benjamin Neo, Marissa Mir and Phui Yin Siew experienced a day in the life of the real ‘kaiviti’ – people from Fiji – taking part in a kava ceremony and experiencing the lush jungle of the Sigatoka Valley.

While staying at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort the group also attended a traditional Fijian Sunday church service and later relaxed at the resort’s award-winning Bebe Spa Sanctuary.

They also enjoyed a hosted dinner at the resort’s Ivi Restaurant, recently voted Best Visitor Dining Experience at the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.

From Castaway Island, Fiji the group enjoyed a dolphin safari and a laid-back blue water experience at Cloud 9, Fiji’s only two-level, offshore floating platform complete with a bar and a wood-fired pizza oven. A guided snorkel tour of house reef, part of Castaway’s coral planting and reef conservation program, highlighted Outrigger’s commitment to preserving the environment.

Another culinary high point of their trip to Fiji was dinner at the resort’s 1808 barefoot-in-the-sand restaurant where they enjoyed cuisine that reflected the fusion of Fijian, Asian and western influences which are the modern Fiji.

Through this partnership, we hope to raise the awareness of Fiji as a destination in Singapore and Southeast Asian audiences.
