Most Outstanding Pa’u Princess

This past weekend, Outrigger was a proud sponsor of the Hawai’i Island Pa’u unit in this year’s Aloha Festivals Parade. Representing Hawai’i Island was Pa’u Princess Keikilani Kainoa, Guest Services Director at the Royal Waikoloan Hotel (soon to be the Outrigger Waikoloa Resort). Tootsie Kainoa and Dee Dee Keakealani were Keikilani’s attendants, and her paige was Mark Freitas. Her escorts, Godfrey Kainoa Sr., Mark Yamaguchi and Wayne Tachera are all working Parker Ranch Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) and full-time Hawaiian Home ranchers. They represented the Paniolo through four generations of Hawaii Island ranching.

Dressed in red, Hawaii Island’s color, and bedecked in an abundance of red ‘ohia lehua, Keikilani and her unit rode on to win the President’s Award. Keikilani also received the Most Outstanding Pa’u Princess trophy for her exceptional display of the Aloha Spirit throughout the parade.

The Pa’u Unit was also accompanied by the best Pooper Scoopers in the business! Perry Sorenson, Bill Brown, Barry Wallace, Rob Solomon, Mike Devich, Avery Aoki and Ted Hardie volunteered to do the “dirty work” for the Hawai’i Island unit. Dressed in red palaka and cowboy hats to celebrate the Year of the Paniolo, they made sure that Waikiki remained a clean, poop-free environment. Nothing escaped their rakes and brooms! Good job!

A big mahalo to Reuben Nakagawa and his crew who built the Pooper Scooper covered wagons and to the Marketing department for the wagon banners.

Congratulations to Keikilani and the Hawai’i Island Pa’u unit!
