By Pieter Van Der Hoeven — On the sun-filled morning of April 1, after many many months of hard work, planning, and training, the Outrigger Serenity Terraces, in Phuket, Thailand, was one day away from opening its doors.
Darren Edmonstone, Senior Vice President, Asia, and Khun Pipat, Director of the owning company of Serenity Terraces, presided over a Thai monk blessing ceremony attended by the Outrigger Serenity Terraces’ team. The nine monks chanted for good luck for the Thai ‘ohana and blessed the overall property and individual offices. It was an uplifting experience for all and was attended by the developers, unit owners, and of course, Outrigger management and staff.
The blessings were obviously successful, as the next morning at 10:05 a.m., Mr. and Mrs. Shunsaku Maekawa from Tokyo, along with their ten-year-old daughter Mamiko checked-in without a hitch and became the first official guests of the Outrigger Serenity Terraces.
Later in the day, a society couple from Bangkok checked in, closely followed by guests from the mainland USA—the United Nations was already in town!
The first evening saw all the in-house guests dining in our restaurant, Turquoise, with extremely positive comments. We also welcomed our first outside dining guests — all whom enjoyed the surroundings, delicacies. and service of Chef Louis and his Food & Beverage team.
It was also an auspicious day for our Vice President, Operations and Projects, Michael Cowan, who was serenaded by the Outrigger Thailand ‘ohana and presented with the first official ‘ohana birthday cake — 21 again Michael? Or so he would like us to believe.
