Sea Grape Harvest for Los Angeles travel editor on Castaway Island, Fiji

BY DONNA PARKIN — Ken Shapiro, the Los Angeles-based editor in chief of Travel Age West, and his daughter Sally are already planning a return to Castaway Island, Fiji after a recent visit.

A joint initiative with Tourism Fiji, highlights of their trip included coral planting, harvesting sea grapes on a tidal sand bar with Executive Chef Lance Seeto, snorkeling on the house reef and a visit to the Cloud Nine floating platform off Ro Ro Reef with its sun beds, bar and pizza oven.

Sally has already penciled in night snorkeling with Castaway Island dive staff for her next trip.
