BY ROBERT MCCONNELL AND KATHY OYADOMARI — After 40 years of aloha at the bell desk, Wayne Staunton retired from the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort on May 2.
Wayne started with Outrigger in 1976 as a graveyard bellman and was promoted to nighttime supervisor. He is known as the department’s historian sharing stories of old Waikīkī, even from before the hotel was built!
Wayne is highly respected and well-liked by guests and coworkers. He enjoys entertaining them with jokes, stories and song.
He plans to spend his retirement doing worldwide missionary work with his wife.
Wayne’s kind demeanor and leadership will be missed.
After 37 years of aloha, Ho Soon Kang retired from the OHANA Waikiki Malia by Outrigger® on April 28.
Ho Soon first worked at the OHANA Waikiki West as a housekeeper and later transferred to the OHANA Waikiki Malia by Outrigger®.
She is looking forward to traveling to Korea to visit family and also visiting her son in North Carolina. Keeping healthy and fit is important to Ho Soon, so she plans to keep active by swimming and walking for 30 minutes daily with her husband. Shopping at Ala Moana Center, having lunch with friends and watching Korean dramas are other activities she enjoys.
With thanks and well wishes, we bid our fond aloha to Wayne and Ho Soon.
