On behalf of the entire Outrigger ‘ohana, please join me and the Human Resources department in welcoming Peter Hopgood, who has been appointed General Manager of Outrigger on the Lagoon – Fiji.
Peter takes the reins from Darren Shaw, who starts a new role in Asia with Outrigger Enterprises Group next month, after successfully heading up Outrigger on the Lagoon – Fiji for the past three-and-a-half years.
Peter is widely considered to be one of the South Pacific’s most respected General Managers, having managed a range of luxurious island resorts dotting Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef, together with four- and five-star resorts on the Australian mainland.
Having spent over thirty years in the tourism industry, Peter’s experience spans all areas of resort and hotel operations, including conferencing, food & beverage, and multi-million dollar refurbishments, the latter comprising a $38 million upgrade at one of three resorts he managed on Hamilton Island, comprising almost 500 rooms.
Peter has an excellent track record in achieving results, and I believe under his management, he will bring a new and dynamic element to Outrigger and build on the resort’s excellent worldwide standing.
Peter said he is looking forward to becoming part of the Fijian community and building on the resort’s leading reputation.
“The quality of the resort, its beautiful grounds and location, together with the genuine warmth of the staff surpassed all my expectations…I haven’t been this excited in years!” Peter said.
A keen golfer and fisherman, Peter will have no difficulty slotting into Fiji’s idyllic island lifestyle. He is also an avid supporter of Australian rules football, but we might keep that a secret given Fiji is a sports-mad nation of rugby followers!
