Students learn the ropes at Outrigger Guam Beach Resort

BY CLARISSA SACLA — The Outrigger Guam Beach Resort hosted four students from the John F. Kennedy (JFK) High School’s Job Shadow Program Feb. 28 and March 1. The students are part of the Lodging Management Program (LMP) and ProStart® (culinary), both provide students at the secondary level (juniors and seniors) with education and training for jobs in tourism, hotel, restaurant management and culinary arts. The job shadow program provides students with brief hands-on experience in actual work settings.

LMP students, Keoni Manglona and Katelyn Villamayor, were introduced to front office, recreation and housekeeping operations, while ProStart® students, Harry Lee and Kristine Fajardo, immersed themselves in the service and food preparation side of food and beverage.

All four eleventh graders have aspirations to pursue their career choices after high school graduation. The students are to make presentations of their job shadow experience March 14 at their school, inviting all businesses that participated in the project.
