BY LUANA MAITLAND — There were lots of hugs and kisses at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, as 41 couples from the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and Outrigger Reef on the Beach gathered to renew their vows on Valentine’s Day.
It was a perfect setting for Peter and Arlene Lecce from Collinville, Illinois, who were celebrating 64 wonderful years together and Sunhwa Yun and Younho Park from Incheon, Korea, who just got married two days prior. How wonderful it was to have both couples from different parts of the world together to celebrate their union on this special day and in this special place.
In addition to what is normally provided at our vow renewal, for Valentine’s Day, each couple received beautiful lei to be given to each other in the ceremony. Following the ceremony, each couple had a complimentary photo taken of them on the beach by Hawaiian Portrait and were invited to enjoy a glass of champagne, Mimosa or sparkling cider. Couples were presented their vow renewal certificate signed by family and friends or me as their witness.
The highlight, however, was when Jerry McLaughlin proudly admitted having tearful eyes throughout the ceremony. “It’s my Irish blood,” stated Mr. McLaughlin, while Denise (his wife) stood beside him giggling.
