BY PEGGY CHASTEEN AND DEBBIE AKAU — March 5 was the official start date of the renovation of the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Well underway, by the beginning of July, here’s what guests can expect to experience:
• All new—pool, spa tile, pool deck and Ali‘i deck stone
• An expanded sundeck and pool deck
• Upgraded deck lighting
• Repaired building exterior concrete
• New glass lanai railings for oceanfront guest rooms
• Renovated guest rooms and corridors for floors 9 through 16
Upgrades to the guest rooms and corridors include paint, wallcover, carpet, draperies, beds, sofabeds, chairs, lighting, artwork, refrigerators, safes, tubliners, signage, guest room doors and electronic locks.
For guests’ added comfort, soundproofing is being installed between guest rooms and new quiet toilets are being installed as well. Modernization of the elevators and escalator began in January of this year and will take about a year to complete. And by Christmas, the last six guest floors will have been renovated and the exterior of the building will have a fresh coat of paint.
Property Services is fortunate to have several members of the Outrigger Waikiki ‘ohana working along with us on this project. Todd Wakida, Reuben Burke, Jacky Gong and Vivian Chen are hard at work upgrading Outrigger Waikiki for their future guests.
