The Holiday Inn® Waikiki Beachcomber Resort celebrated the conclusion of the 6 Paddles Process on July 13 with a “sweet ending!” “This was a celebration of our individual and collective achievements…our employees work so hard every day, and it was so nice to watch the joy on their faces. What a great way to tie it all up with food, fun and spending it with our ‘ohana!” said Pam Yagi, Assistant General Manager.
The celebration included a carnival-style of games, prizes, home-cooked food and an inspiring dessert contest by our very own employees. The employees showed off their skills by playing darts, tossing bean bags, and playing Hawaiian horseshoes and golf putting! For each win, employees earned a value card stating one of Outrigger’s Ke ‘Ano Wa’a values and also a comparable Holiday Inn’s Stay Real behavior card. This was to reinforce that our values may differ in language, but the meanings are alike. For example, our value of kuleana or accountability coincides with the Stay Real behavior of “Take Action,” which means to go the extra mile and take ownership. The value cards were redeemable for a plethora of prizes, including snacks and Holiday Inn® Waikiki Beachcomber Resort logo items.
The fun did not stop there! Our first dessert contest topped off the event with delectables in three categories: Hawaiian, American and International. We had the honor of Bruce Schneider, Napua Ho and Kathy Oyadomari as our judges of the sweet treats! Each judge was assigned to one of the three categories and judged on three criteria: taste, appearance and creativity. The top three desserts from each category were recognized, but the overall reward was being able to celebrate our hotel’s journey with one another’s stories, fun and laughter—the Outrigger Way!
